Football Expert Sutton Faces Off Against Singer Murs in Premier League Predictions

Arsenal's ten-match victorious run was ended by the Black Cats before the international hiatus, but can the Premier League frontrunners recover against north London rivals Spurs this Sunday?

"{I feel like Arsenal are light years ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs boss Thomas Frank will have a plan for this match," stated soccer specialist Chris Sutton.

"The Spurs manager will attempt to neutralize Arsenal, who have not always been at their scintillating best this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's side usually still find a way to win."

Sutton is forecasting results for all 380 Premier League games this term, versus artificial intelligence, readers and a variety of guests.

In week 12, he takes on singer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United fan.

The singer's latest record, the new release, is out on the weekend.

Football and Parenting Life

Murs is a skilled footballer as well as a accomplished artist and has been a star of several Soccer Aid games over time - but he is not planning a professional comeback as a player.

"{I actually played in a charity match the other evening for a friend of mine," he explained. "My team was trailing 3-1 when I was substituted in the second half, and they proceeded to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you want!

"I still love football, but I hurt my joint a few years ago and it still isn't where I want it to be. I wish I could play more but the unpredictability of the sport means it's too risky for me in my profession to do it seriously again.

"Plus I am forty-one now, and we are not all Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very happy not playing football and I am gearing up for the time that my daughter or boy decides to play instead."

The singer and his wife Amelia Tank have two children, their daughter and their son, and he is ready to emulate his dad by taking on the role of their coach.

"I won't push football on our children but I've previously told my wife that if they do get the bug for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will likely be coaching their Saturday soccer side," he added.

"I observed my nephews play a lot, and I really got into it, and I obviously owned a soccer team for a period too.

"My father coached with us when I was a child, which is likely where I get it from. He managed our side for two or three years and had great fun with it. That could be the future for me as well, and I am looking forward to it!"

Premier League Predictions

Saturday, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea may have to wait a bit longer for Cole Palmer's return from injury but their attack is already stronger with Joao Pedro and Liam Delap both returned to fitness.

In my opinion this fixture will be quite close, though. Burnley are well organised and their sole home defeats so far have been against Liverpool and the Gunners.

It smells of a 1-1 draw to me, but I am actually going to choose Chelsea to win narrowly for what would be their third Premier League win in a row.

Sutton's forecast: 1-2

Olly's pick: The Blues will be superior. 1-3

AI's outlook: 0-2

The Cherries have lost their past two games - although both of them were on the road - but they got thoroughly beaten by Villa last time out which shocked me.

In contrast, the Hammers won back-to-back victories before the international break and, although both of those games were at home, they appear strong again.

West Ham's sole away victory this campaign came at Nottingham Forest in the summer, when West Ham manager Nuno was still Forest manager.

Therefore, what exactly do I predict here - can the Hammers continuing their streak under Nuno, or Bournemouth bouncing back?

I will choose Bournemouth, because I believe what occurred against Villa was a blip.

The pundit's forecast: 2-0

Olly's outlook: The home team are performing strongly but West Ham have picked up under their boss. 2-2

The algorithm's pick: 1-1

The Bees were considered one of the frontrunners for relegation before the campaign started, but they have surprised a several observers under their manager and are in fine fettle with three in their past four games.

A family member told me to select Bees striker Thiago in my Fantasy Football squad a few weeks back and, unfortunately, I didn't listen.

Thiago will likely find the net again on the weekend but I am still not going to select him or support the away side at Brighton's ground.

The Bees have not had much success on the travel this term, and Brighton are always strong at their stadium. Brentford will attempt to hit them on the counter-attack but I feel the home manager's side pose much more of a threat.

Sutton's prediction: 2-1

The singer's prediction: It could be one of those games where you expect there is going to be a lot of scores but it actually turns out to be rather tight. 1-1

AI's prediction: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a huge game for the Cottagers, who have suffered defeat in five of their past six matches.

They have have plenty of quality in their squad but it still seems like they could be dragged into a drop zone fight.

Regarding the Black Cats, well they are the surprise package of the Premier League season so far.

Their display in the two-all draw with the Gunners last time out was excellent. We've not witnessed anyone else rough up the Gunners like that this term, and Sunderland were fully competitive for them.

The sensible thing would be to support the visitors here, because they are clearly capable of disrupting the hosts up too and, the last time they were in this part of London, they defeated Chelsea at the close of October.

However I am not do that. Rather, I truly need to continue going against Sunderland with my forecasts. I am taking a lot of credit for their positive results because they evidently enjoy to defy my predictions.

Looking at Fulham's at Craven Cottage record, the only side they have lost to is the league leaders. Their manager's side will be absolutely desperate for a positive result, so I am going to say they will secure three much-needed points.

The expert's prediction: 1-0

Olly's prediction: I'm aware Sunderland are performing strongly and additionally that Fulham are on a bad run... but they have nonetheless been respectable at Craven Cottage this campaign. 2-0

The algorithm's prediction: 2-0

  • Anfield, 15:00 GMT

This is a hard fixture to predict. Liverpool have lost seven of their last ten matches in all competitions, but might they be among the sides who profit from the {international break|
