Grief as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Police said the forty-year-old media personality was confronted by three suspects, one of whom began shooting at him before escaping on foot.
The motive of the incident remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Authorities indicated that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a premises close to the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the building overseeing the implementation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, it was reported.
"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement stated.
CCTV footage showed a man with dreadlocked hair and clad in what resembled a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but fell down a short distance away.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the attack.
Key evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the location.
Appeal for Witnesses
Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.
"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the shooting, and officers have been following their trail to determine their destination," remarked an authority figure.
Outpouring of Grief
His family member, a close relative, said the family was struggling to process his death.
"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"It is clear he was a voice for many people. He was a fearless commentator about issues not many people were prepared to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."
She requested the citizens to not sharing explicit content from the scene, explaining this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's children.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that premiered on a popular local TV network.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was engaged in various business ventures, including protective services, providing VIP protection services and protecting high-profile events across South Africa.
