Heavy Downpours Worsen Circumstances for Evacuated Residents of Gaza, Officials Caution

Heavy rains over the recent period have worsened the extremely difficult circumstances of the hundreds of thousands of evacuated residents in the Gaza Strip, according to relief organizations.

"Horrendous" Conditions Creates Serious Risks

A representative characterized the recent storm as "terrible", with downpours so intense that around 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.

"The recent weather was really difficult for the residents. The storms were so powerful... And the winds were so strong," said the representative.

Officials express significant concern that young ones living in tents in damp clothing will contract hypothermia and additional illnesses.

Casualties and Significant Destruction

The health ministry have stated that one baby has died from the cold and no fewer than 11 other people have died in structural failures due to the severe weather.

Further statements indicate a increased number of casualties. Authorities stated that several homes had fully given way and scores had sustained partial collapse.

Assistance Operations Considered Insufficient

Organizations have escalated shipments of tents, blankets and garments since the halt in hostilities started, but they emphasize there is remains not enough aid getting in.

"Officials are striving constantly to deliver that assistance and to allocate it, but the scale of the needs is so immense that we still have many thousands of individuals and minors who are truly enduring hardship nightly," stated one representative.

Ongoing Concerns and Agreement Terms

The next stage of the agreement includes plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the pullback of troops, and other provisions.

Aid bodies have stressed the need for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to meet urgent and future needs."

The hostilities was initiated by an offensive in October 2023. Subsequent military operations have led to a substantial number of fatalities in the territory, as per health ministry figures.
