Israelis have come together throughout the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated offensive on October 7th, 2023, as talks proceeded in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the war in Gaza.

The assault saw over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken back to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely most lethal day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel responded by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are seen as trustworthy by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"The aggressive adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," the leader stated on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "achieve all the aims of the war: the return of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will no longer present a danger to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed formal commemorations until mid-October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still were held throughout the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the relatives of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas attack was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was aired on Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was held throughout the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' negotiating teams convened in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of indirect talks to examine the provisions of the proposal.

A high-ranking delegate knowledgeable about the discussions said that an evening round of mediated discussions commenced at evening in Egypt.

The official stated the earlier meeting finished without concrete outcomes, due to disagreements over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not recommence fighting after the first phase of the deal.

He commented that the discussions are "challenging and have still not achieve any major advancement," but noted that facilitators are working hard to narrow the differences between the conflicting groups.

Critical Issues in Negotiations

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The trade of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid deliveries
  • Future administration of the area

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square earlier, young Hagar - whose family member endured the attack on the gathering, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - explained: "No place seems like home any longer and until all the hostages come back none of us will feel safe."

"When we see everybody home again, we can feel relief once more. Then we can start to heal," she added.

In front of the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people gathered to show their backing for the families of the captives. Israel says forty-eight stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be surviving.

Activist a participant remarked: "We must do any agreement needed for the hostages to return. But we really want promises that we will be protected."

Research now consistently show that about the majority of Israelis prefer the war to end in return for the liberation of the hostages.

Gaza Situation

At the area of the gathering, mourners assembled to pay their respects.

From that location, the sound of aerial bombardments and explosions could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people indicated the severe Israeli attacks persisted.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were documented in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, area and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern area of that sector, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"When the dusk arrives, the fear appears with it," relocated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was died by an Israeli bombing previously, described.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the air strikes. All the night we are sleeping together, holding each other, notably my youngest child who places his head on me all night."

"Continuously we monitor the reports to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be finalized and that the war will return to us."

Medical Crisis

The healthcare center in the urban area said it had received the remains of several people by the daytime, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the southern area.

Nasser hospital in the south region of the city reported two more dead people had been brought there. An individual was lost his life by Israeli troops while attempting to get aid to the south region, health workers said.

The region's health ministry announced 25 of the {territ
