Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is his first championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led some to question if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour victory, took control to create a final set.

He rescued 4 initial break points in a competitive final set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
