Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period like this with performances so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
