Supporters Call for Custody of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are urging that a individual who breached a barrier and touched the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A circulating video shows the individual from Australia bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the performers walked down a promenade surrounded by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being taken in", though official papers indicated that he was set to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Record of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account features videos of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney performance in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last December.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user remarked.
Fans Express Concern Over Ariana's Well-being
Many followers blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented one more message on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised security officers at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande looked shocked when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a dual adaptation of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which centers on the unexpected relationship between two contrasting characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of 2024 in the UK, and earned 10 award recognitions, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
