Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose impact on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
