The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
