The Reform UK leader Claims Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by telling students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
During an event for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.
“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators soon after winning the next general election,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They create division, not uniting us. They promote this negative culture.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede dismissed the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his political career on coded rhetoric and currently, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their unions for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
Reform, which tops surveys by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
Nonetheless, Farage’s remarks suggested the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with schooling – truly monumental. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Honoring a conservative activist, he commented: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves rather than current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned at school, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and millions of days of lost learning for students.
During the American gathering, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to your online courses. I pledge this tonight and I will follow through.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to all who wish to learn.”
