This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
