UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her exist four separate personas, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These souls can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, while additional clips depict the protagonist navigating a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate a deep instinct within us. This game explores that concept — fears that are specific to every individual."

The core mechanic involves managing the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the girl one after another. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms where their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player have deduced a persona is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, because each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The last one remaining could be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is available to follow on platforms.
